Special Workshop - Chandra DeBuse - Hand Building and Surface Decoration with the artist.
Learn new ways of designing, building, and illustrating functional pottery with Chandra DeBuse. Chandra will share how she uses inexpensive materials such as paper, craft form, wood, and bisqued clay to generate forms through hand building with soft clay slabs. She will demonstrate how she uses texture, under glaze inlay, sgraffito, and brushwork to create lively surfaces with characters and patterns. Although the techniques and discussion will cover pottery and surfaces for mid-range electric firings, the workshop will be valuable for anyone striving to develop a more cohesive relationship between form and surface in their own clay work.

|Amy Sanders - Altered and Enhanced Surfaces with Amy Sanders
Working with low-fire earthenware, this workshop will mainly focus on soft slab construction while considering how stamped patterns enhance the surface, with some thrown and altered pots demonstrated as well. Some pieces will be created by pinching, folding, and draping thin slabs over molds, while others will start with simple paper templates. A variety of functional forms will be demonstrated, including serving pieces, vases, sculptural bowls, and wall pieces.
During the hands-on portion of the workshop, participants will make several personal mark-making and texturing tools to use in their own work, as well as create forms such as a vase, altered slab cup, and wall piece. Emphasis in instruction will also be placed on successfully resolving feet, rims, and and handles.
Amy will also share her glaze recipes.
