SUMMER CLASSES 2008

Adult Classes 

Ceramics – Wheel and/or Handbuilding

Create hand built, wheel thrown, functional and sculptural ceramics. Work with an experienced instructor on decorative techniques using slips, oxides and glazes. Skill level: All levels

Dinnerware – Design, Utility and Form

Design your own 16 piece set of dinnerware in this four week class. Create your personal statement in clay through throwing and altering dinner plates, small plates, bowls and mugs (4 each). Surface embellishments and glazing will be demonstrated with a focus towards function. Skill level: Intermediate.

Teapots and More

Create a teapot, cups/mugs or teabowls and trays for fun, fantasy and tea. In this four week class you will use either the wheel or handbuilding methods to create a functional tea set. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated to unify the design and surface treatment of the pieces. Skill level: All levels.

Decorate Your Garden

Create a bird bath, garden ornament or a large planter to enhance your garden or patio in this four week class. Handbuilding and/or wheel methods may be used to construct your pieces. Decorating techniques such as stamping, slips and oxides will be demonstrated. Skill level: All levels.

Figure Sculpture Workshop

                            

Advanced students are invited to work from a live model in a one day workshop. In a six hour session students will have access to instruction as needed.

Saturday June 28, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

$60 per student plus clay.  An additional fee may be charged for firing large pieces.

Serving Pieces

Complement your dinnerware with serving pieces of your own creation. Function and ergonomics will play important roles in your personal statement in clay. Create serving bowls, platters and vessels that you feel are essential. Discussions and demonstrations on glazing and ornamentation will focus on utility and aesthetics. Skill level: Intermediate.

 Glass Fusing

Join us at ClaySpace for a class in glass fusing. Learn full fuse tack fuse, and the use of frit. Students will learn to make a small bowl among other projects. Skill level: Beginner.

Silver Clay

Art Clay Silver works like clay and metal and fires to 99% fine silver. Students will do cork clay bead syringe work, earrings, a round shaft ring w/stone and a pendant. Skill level: Beginner.

Children’s  Classes   

  

 

Family Clay

Come learn some basic hand-building techniques while you have some creative fun with your family. Moms and/or Dads will join their kids in creative learning experience making a ceramic treasure that will last a lifetime. $60 per person.

I. Ceramic Garden Totem Pole Workshop

Personalize your garden with a totem sculpture to complement your plantings. Make your own design statement in clay without spending much time away from your yard. Bring leaves, pine cones, seashells, bark, textured stones, etc. to press into the clay.

Monday - Thursday (June 23 to 26) 2:00 to 4:00 PM

II. Culture                                                                                                

Make a coil built bottle and slab build bottle.

Monday – Thursday (July 7 to 10) 2:00pm to 4:00pm

III. Functional - "Art as a Plate"

Make two pieces of functional ware and decorate in the style of an artist of choice (Van Gogh, Peter Max, etc.)

Monday – Thursday (July 14 to 17) 2:00pm to 4:00pm

IV. Culture – tile mural (4 to 6 tiles)

Do a family mural together or an individual mural.

Monday – Thursday (July 21 to 24) 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Kids Explore

Explore hand building techniques like pinching, coiling and rolling clay into creative sculptural and functional forms. Learn how to glaze your fired pieces. Be introduced to the potter’s wheel. Minimum age, 10.

Session I:
Mondays 10:00am – 12:00pm (June 16 to July 14)

Session II:
Mondays 10:00am – 12:00pm (June 21 to Aug 11)

$70 for 4 weeks material fee included.

ClaySpace can arrange a custom class anytime that suits your skill level and availability. Private, semi-private lessons, group events for children and adults as well as team-building sessions are available. Call or email for information.

Hand Building 
Use slab, pinching and coiling to create functional and sculptural artworks in our fabulous facility. A wide range of decorative techniques achieved with color and texture using stains, slips, and glazes. Our expert instructors will help you reach your creative goals. Beginners will have the opportunity for individual attention and advanced students may work at their own pace. Wheel techniques introduced.

Skill level: All levels

Figure Sculpture

Working with live models, we will use the dominant sense of touch to work clay like flesh. Create lifelike forms for you home or garden.  Anatomical reference combined with artistic interpretation will help bring creations to life. Some clay experience helpful, but not required. 10 weeks.

Glass Fusing

Join us at ClaySpace for glass fusing classes to find out how easy it is and how much fun you can have making fused glass pieces. Session I. Projects include: pendants, earrings, and using frit in a mold. Session II. Projects: etching dichro, glass slump bowl, and bracelet.5 week sessions.

Kid’s Classes

Clay Fantasy

Discover…the fun of working with clay.  

Experience…coiling & rolling clay into castles and fantasy creatures.

Enjoy… painting your creations with colorful stains and glazes.

Exposure to the potter’s wheel. Ages 10 & up.

Session I: Tuesdays 4:15 PM to 5:45 PM, 9/16 to10/14, $115, materials included.

Session II: Tuesdays 4:15 PM to 5:45 PM, 10/21 to11/18, $115, materials included.

Custom Classes

Design-a-Class

ClaySpace will arrange custom classes for a minimum of four people. Private, semi-private lessons, group events for children and adults as well as team-building sessions are available. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are welcome. Call or email for information.
