About Kate Keilty
Kate started her career in clay creating fanciful mud pies as a child at her grandparents’ farm. Having ‘clay fever’ she continued on with the medium and earned a BA in Art Education with a minor in ceramics. Kate also earned her MA in Ceramics at Northern Illinois University. Having taught ceramics at College of DuPage for eight years she was ready for something else in clay. Kate is a founding member of Clay People and ClaySpace where she is a resident artist. For many years she has been employed in Aurora Public Schools as and Art teacher in all medias. Kate resides in Naperville with her daughter and a turtle. Kate still has clay fever which has no known cure.
Taking Kate’s ceramics class will enable participants to better understand the methods of working with clay and gain clay confidence. Kate will examine all aspects of throwing on a potter’s wheel, glazing, hand building, surface manipulation and assist students in developing a personal style. Many students who have taken her class also contracted clay fever and have become Resident Artists in an attempt to cure themselves.
